What an amazing time of year! Full of memories, emotions and hopes for the future. The casino and dog track near my house usually puts on a fireworks display to rival NYC! This year, though, there will be no fireworks. Must be budget cuts. Who knows? My neighbors and I will have some champagne and toast the going of the old and arrival of the new.
Not coming from the mainstream, wild parties were not really part of my family's tradition. Jewish New Year is a time for reflection, connection and repentance, fasting and cleansing. It couldn't be farther from the celebrations of the usual.
I like the turning of the year. All those resolutions! I have a few. The most important one is to quit smoking cigarettes! I have just taken some medicine to accomplish this before the new year. I go in and out of this expensive and destructive habit. The medicine is awful and no one else I know can tolerate it. I am determined, so...it is a lesser discomfort than the cost of continuing, the smell in my house and on my person, not to mention the insane activity of paying to poison your own body!
2018 is going to be a year of positivism. of building, expanding and celebrating life!
